JULY IS PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER MONTH GOES VIRTUAL!

July Is Parks Make Life Better Month! To celebrate, our Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring FREE virtual activities to get our community active and outdoors enjoying our parks. Things may look different, but Parks and Rec is helping to keep Santa Cruz strong. All event information is available at santacruzparksandrec.com. Follow us on social media to participate throughout July.

You can get your family outdoors with many fun July Is activities. Wacky Water Day comes to you this year with “Fun Day” take home kits from Louden Nelson’s Community Center. Kits include a list of water activities plus supplies including an inflatable beach ball, water balloons, Parks & Rec swag, make your own popcorn kit and other surprises.

Experience fireworks virtually and safely in your own backyard with TotalAR app on July 4. Get creative with the Teen Center’s Design Your Own Swag competition. Put your spin on a plain white t-shirt or pair of kicks.

Parks and Rec offers virtual activities all month for the entire family. Be a Park Detective with the augmented reality Agents of Discovery app. Discover local plants and animals while exploring your local park as you complete each mission. Learn the unique history of our City through our local parks. Join local historian Ross Gibson virtually each week as he shares the history of one of our City’s beautiful parks.

We’re celebrating the Civic Auditorium’s 80th anniversary! Delve into the history of this cornerstone of the community through the new Civic history website. Experience the Downtown Significant Tree Walk virtually this year. Join Urban Forester Leslie Keedy, certified arborist, as she highlights some of the major trees in the downtown area.

All Parks Make Life Better activities can be found on Parks and Rec’s Virtual Recreation web page along with other fun activities for families, kids and seniors.  Learn to draw a California poppy, participate in a virtual senior class, or take a virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo or Monterey Bay Aquarium.

As we navigate this challenging time, Santa Cruz Parks and Rec can help to make life better!
