Since NextGen shifted the U.S. ground-based air traffic control system to a satellite-based system using GPS, Santa Cruz County residents have had to deal with way more noise. A new southern arrival pattern to San Francisco International Airport (SFO.) called SERFR ONE replaces the BIG SUR TWO flight path that dispersed incoming flights over a much larger area. This new “Super Highway” over Santa Cruz County has motivated complaints and protest. Hundreds of people gathered on Friday, July 24 at Anna Jean Cummings Park aka Blue Ball Park to rally for the FAA to change the flight pattern back. Save Our Skies is the organization leading this community based protest.
