February Model of the Month: Alexandria
February 01, 2012

1aaaaalexSCW:   Name?  Hometown?  Currently reside?

AH:   Alexandria Danielle Hays. Nickname, Alex or Zanny.  Born in San Diego, raised in Santa Cruz.
Currently living in San Francisco for one more week, then I'm moving to Los Angeles to work on music.

SCW:   So you must be enjoying some down time on the islands huh?  Pina Coladas and a hammock, or have you been getting into more adventurous activities?

AH:   Yes, this is my first time on Oahu. It's a family vacation, but also a pre-birthday present because my birthday is next weekend.  Definitely more adventurous. My dad rented surfboards for everyone; himself, my sister, me and my boyfriend. We are planning a few hikes and then renting a car to drive to the North shore.

SCW:   What's life like, being a model?  Is it easy breezy or are there parts of it that aren't too enjoyable?

AH:  I'd say both. Doing what you enjoy always takes the work out of work, but there are some jobs that are harder than others. Some shoots require 12 to 18 hour days. That can be rough. For the most part every job is different and that's what I like the most.

SCW:  Do have other forms of work that pay the bills or this your full time gig?

AH:   I have worked in restaurants since I was 15, the social aspect is what I really enjoy. Great food, great wine and cocktails, plus the people you meet in the industry are very eclectic. I have worked at Rn74 in San Francisco for the last year and I met some of the most influential people. I will miss them...

My goal is to eventually have modeling/acting/music be a full time job. It's what I am most passionate about and I get to work with people that are very creative. It's inspiring to see people making a living doing what they love.

SCW:  Do you enjoy participating in sports or you more of a sidelines kind of girl?

AH:  Both. I was on the sidelines as cheerleader in high school but I also ran track and cross country. Everyone in my family is plays sports and my dad is pretty competitive, so I think that influenced me to be more outgoing.

SCW:  Average day for Alexandria?

AH:  My life is far from average, and that is what I cherish. Every day is different. Next month I will be in Los Angeles taking music and acting classes. As a model, you are going to castings almost every day, but they are all different. I keep my schedule full with my other hobbies like running, yoga, dance, pottery, songwriting, and traveling.

SCW:  Most attractive traits in the opposit sex?

AH:  My boyfriend is from Germany which I really find attractive. The European perspective is very different which makes me realize we approach situations differently. He challenges me to grow and be more open minded. He also speaks two languages, so in addition to being fluent in Spanish, I am now learning German. Other than that, confidence, humor, independence, spontaneity and being good with kids is very attractive.

SCW:  What would you do if you won the lottery?

AH:   I actually had this conversation recently. The first thing I would do is plan a trip to somewhere tropical.  Maybe Indonesia or Thailand.  That way I could have some time to really evaluate what is most important to me and how I could use the money to make a difference, not only in my life but on a larger scale as well.

SCW:  Any shout-outs?

AH:  Without my family and friends I wouldn't be who I am today so I have to thank them. Everyone in the "Hays" family, my friends in Santa Cruz, the EPIC Crew, all my friends in San Francisco, everyone that I have met and worked with along my path, Brandon Burgdorf for introducing me to Santa Cruz Waves, and that special man in my life, my boyfriend, Manuel Rappard.
