“Audiafauna is almost like an abstract being that found us,” explains R2. The six piece ensemble originally created by Andonian and Koval stemmed out with no initial intention of starting a band, but found the group “grew like fungi.” The blending of Koval’s soulful voice with uniquely hip hop inspired beats and hypnotic strings make for an undeniably excellent listening experience. The band aspires to find things that are pleasant to the ears and digest-able to a wide range of people. No one stereotype can label the fans: “Naked hippies, grandmas, they’re all there.”
Audiafauna took months deciding on a name for their group- “[We’ve] grown into the name,” says Andonian. “Bands over time become the thing they embody.” In Audiafauna’s case, their sound embodies the blending of natural and electronic with samples, drawing beautiful chords from stringed instruments and Koval’s voice. “Kelly has a lot of soul,” points out Andonian. “The next album will have more electric, but we try to stay away from harsh electronics… we can play really well acoustic too.” Currently Audiafauna is working on a new album and upcoming video release. “We’re learning a lot by doing things ourselves,” says R2. “Like is it [the music] going to stand the test of time? You have to take yourself out of the equation and ask- what would Audiafauna want?” Another small tour is anticipated after the release of their album “Roots.” Upcoming shows include: May 5 Aubergine- Sebastopol, CA May 6 Ukiah Brewery- Ukiah, CA May 7 Whole Earth Festival- Davis, CA May 13 Jose's Underground Lounge- Monterey, CA May 20 Barkissimo- Emeryville, CA July 14 Moe's Alley- Santa Cruz, CA For more info check out: http://www.facebook.com/audiafauna

Sounds a bit like: Florence & the Machine, Portishead, Air, CocoRosie, Radiohead, Regina Spector and Ray Lamontange. Audiafauna draw on so many genres and eras of music that they are a difficult group to label. “We love that the music is hard to define,” says Hawks. “…we always end up describing the music.” Although a relatively new band, Audiafauna have already completed two money making tours in their leaky bus ‘Besse,’ have obtained their first band of traveling groupies, played eleven shows in twelve nights and eaten Zankou chicken.
